Wage Subsidy Program

WorkBC Hazelton offers wage subsidy services for eligible employers. These programs may reimburse participating employers a portion of wage costs, which is designed to offset the costs of training a new employee that would not otherwise be hired.

Employers may receive a reimbursement of up to 50% of wage costs, depending on the degree of complexity of the job in relation to the client’s skill and ability to perform it.

To be eligible for Wage Subsidy, an employer must:

  • Be a registered business and provide the business name and business number;
  • Have a position to fill that is normally part of their ongoing business operations;
  • Confirm that the client would not have been hired without wage subsidy;
  • Offer a full-time position of a minimum 35 hours per week;
  • Offer the likelihood of a long-term employment; and
  • Pay reasonable, competitive wages that are reflective of the prevailing wage rate for the position.

Wage subsidy does not replace the normal employment procedures-it merely ENHANCES the hiring process!

For financial assistance for the wages of eligible employees, see the B.C. government’s Targeted Wage Subsidies program.

As well, B.C.’s Training Tax Credit Program gives tax credits to employers and apprentices who are in eligible apprenticeship programs.
